Victorian Home Prints
Fourth grade students learned about Victorian style architecture during this lesson and created their own drawings of a Victorian style home. Next they transferred their drawings onto Styrofoam to create these wonderful prints and then glued them onto painted watercolor papers for a completed work of art!

4th Graders Visit the High Museum of Art
Our fourth grade students had a great time learning about art and literacy at the High Museum this week! They experienced the I See Literacy Tour during our visit which teaches students how to read artwork in the same way we read text by looking carefully at the artwork to see its details and making inferences based on what you see. They also participated in a hands on workshop to illustrate their own book cover inspired by an actual work of art from the museum! Way to go students!

4th Grade Fieldtrip to the High Museum of Art
Fourth graders attended a fieldtrip to the High Museum of Art in Atlanta this week and participated in the I See Literacy Tour where they learned more about reading works of art as you would read text. Our students are very fortunate to have the opportunity to go to the High each year in fourth grade since 2005! A great time was had by all students and teachers as well!

Georgia O'Keeffe Flowers with iPads
4th grade students experimented with an app on our iPads in art class to create these abstract versions of their Georgia O'Keeffe flowers they originally drew using oil pastels. Students photographed their original art, then use the iPads to manipulate their photos into these beautiful works of art.

Magritte One-Point Perspective Rooms
Fourth grade students are currently studying the work of surrealist artist Rene Magritte, and his use of scale to create surrealist images of room interiors. They students are applying their knowledge of one-point perspective as they create their room drawings and then using their own creative ideas to complete the details in their rooms including one large scale ordinary object.

Organic Wire Sculptures
Fourth graders learned about British sculptors Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth and their abstract organic closed forms as they created their own abstract sculptures. Color mixing and blending was then demonstrated by students as they completed their unique works if art.

O'Keeffe Inspired Flowers and Leaves with Percolator App
4th grade students first studied the life and artwork of American artist Georgia O'Keeffe. Students studied images of flowers and leaves and created their own close up drawings using water soluble oil pastels. Next, students uploaded their drawings into the Percolator app using iPads in the art classroom to create these fabulous digital art images!

Pop Art Portraits
Fourth graders learned about British pop artist Andy Warhol and his paintings and screenprints of popular everyday objects as well as his portraits of celebrities. Students then created their own pop art inspired styrofoam prints while exploring color theory, repetition, and proportion in their art.

4th Grade Fieldtrip to High Museum of Art
Barnwell fourth graders attended a fieldtrip to the High Museum of Art to take part in the I See Literacy tour which teaches students about reading art as we read text through a series of strategies such as making visual inferences based on what you see or "read" in the work of art. The fieldtrip was a huge success and was greatly enjoyed by both students and teachers!

Straw Wrist Band Weavings!
Students were working hard all week, even on the last day of school to finish their awesome wristband weavings! Many of them have expressed how they look forward to creating more on their own this summer during their travels and free time!
