Fall Scarecrow Landscapes

From start to finish, our first grade students did an amazing job with observation, creative details, and wonderful craftsmanship with these fall landscape paintings!

Fall Landscapes

Our first graders were making observational drawings of scarecrows today in their art journals to plan for their fall landscapes. Can you tell how closely they were looking at the details? Amazing work first graders!

Our newly updated front entrance area is so much more inviting now! We love the addition of our talented first graders' artwork to welcome our guests to Barnwell!

Cityscape Prints

First grade students studied about artist Georgia O'Keeffe's paintings of cityscapes as well as the architect John Portman and his famous hotels that he has designed in Atlanta, Georgia. Next, students created their own cityscape drawings in their art journals and used recycled objects and black paint to stamp lines and shapes to make their cityscape prints. Color was then added with chalk pastels to finish their beautiful works of art!

Beverly Buchanan Shacks

First graders learned about artist Beverly Buchanan from Athens, Georgia, and her drawings, paintings, and sculptures of shacks. Using their knowledge of 3-dimensional forms, line, color, and texture, students then created their own works of art.

Pinch Pot Animals

First grade students used pinch pots and a variety of hand building techniques as they created a variety of clay animal forms in art class.

 

 

 

 

Kandinsky Paintings

First grade students learned about active and calm lines in art class and created their own active lines paintings while listening to a variety of jazz music. Next, they demonstrated their knowledge of mixing the primary colors to create secondary colors as they painted inside the shapes they created. Students also learned about the Russian abstract artist Wassily Kandinsky during this lesson on lines and color.

       

 

 

 

 

Matisse Fish Bowls

First grade students studied the work of Henri Matisse and his still life painting title "The Goldfish" in art class. Students then use their knowledge of 3-D forms to draw a cylinder for a fish bowl and then added a variety of details and patterns to tell a story about the interior of their rooms that they created.
