2nd Grade Clay Cupcakes

Second graders combined pinch pots and coils to make these delicious clay cupcakes in art class! They used great craftsmanship and creativity when decorating their cupcakes with toppings and designs as well!

Cornbread Inspired Owls

Second-grade students made these beautiful owl drawings while incorporating emphasis, texture, space, and neutral colors. They learned about the Georgia folk artist Cornbread during this lesson and had so much fun making these creative works of art!

Jim Dine Inspired Monoprints

Our second graders have been busy learning about symmetry, texture, and the monoprints of American artist Jim Dine.

Our students had an awesome day visiting the Atlanta Botanical Gardens while connecting art, language arts and science! While viewing the sculptures of glass artist, Dale Chihuly, students created alliterations, wrote Haikus, used persuasive writing and more while writing about the art they viewed. Students also took time to sketch and create drawings while viewing these amazing works of art! Of course we also connected science to our trip with all of the plants and even the poison dart frogs that students enjoyed seeing in the Fuqua Conservatory and Orchid Center.

Chihuly Sculptures

 

Our second graders are having so much fun finishing up their faux glass sculptures in art class this week! Check out some of their gorgeous radial designs!

Radial Symmetry Drawings

Our second grade students are preparing their radial designs for their Chihuly sculptures! We are very excited about our fieldtrip to see Chihuly's sculptures in real life at the Atlanta Botanical gardens this May! Egyptian Cartouche Necklaces

Our second grade students finished up their year in art class with these fun shrink dink necklaces. Each student designed their own name using Egyptian hieroglyphs and made learned about ancient Egyptian cartouche designs.

Gyotaku Fish Prints

Second graders are learning about the art of Gyotaku fish printing during their unit on printmaking. They are painting a background to create an environment for their fish and then cutting and pasting their Gyotaku prints onto their paintings to create a finished work of art.

 

Chihuly Bowls

Second Grade students have been learning about glass sculptor Dale Chihuly in art class as well as radial symmetry. Students first drew their own radial designs and then transferred the drawings onto clear shrink film. The film was then cut out and placed into a toaster oven to create our one of a kind faux glass bowls! The students are amazed by the technique and love seeing how each piece is so unique! Such a great lesson in creativity!

Clay Owl Sculptures

Second grade students demonstrated their knowledge of how to create pinch pots, coils, slabs, and visual and implied texture as they created these beautiful clay owls.

Starry Night Collages

Second grade students learned about artist Vincent Van Gogh and his landscape paintings including the famous painting, Starry Night. Students then used their knowledge of perspective to create a community collage using details to tell a story about their scene.

Warhol Inspired Cats

Second grade students learned about Pop Artist Andy Warhol and his colorful paintings of cats. They drew their own cats and included many details to tell a story about the setting for their cat. Their cat drawings were then painted using pop art inspired colors.
