Radical Radial Weavings

Third graders are rocking out these radical radial weavings! They are busy learning all about weaving techniques while making beautiful works of art and incorporating a variety of colors schemes into their designs as well!

It's Snowing in the Art Room

Our third through fifth graders had some fun with symmetry and snowflakes on the
last day before winter break! Check out some of their beautiful designs!

Frida Kahlo Inspired Self-Portraits

Third grade students were inspired by Mexican artist Frida Kahlo and her self-portraits as they created their own self-portraits while learning about the rules of correct proportion. Students also used their knowledge of space to create a background with animals and plants from the rainforest.

Clay Coil Pots

Third graders created these lovely coil pots from clay during art class. They learned about Mexican artist, Juan Quezada, and his clay pots made from natural resources. They also learned about pinch pots, coils, and properly attaching pieces of clay and glazing during this lesson.

Van Gogh Sunflowers

Third grade students created these beautiful still life drawings while observing sunflowers on their art tables. Colors and patterns were later added with tempera paint and oil pastels.

Winter Landscapes

During this lesson, third grade students learned about space and perspective techniques used by landscape painters. Students also learned about folk artist, Grandma Moses, and her winter landscape paintings. Next, they created their own winter landscape paintings including a 3-dimensional barn.

African Mask Collographs

   Third grade students learned about African masks and the clay masks designed by local Georgia artist Kimmy Cantrell during this lesson. Next, students planned and designed their own masks and created collographs to use for printmaking.

     

     

 

                                       

 

Modigliani Inspired Portraits

Third grade students learned about Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani and his stylized portraits. Students shared their opinions about the emotions the artist showed with his famous tilted heads, elongated necks and hollow eyes of his subjects. Students then created either a portrait of another person or a self-portrait using some of the same stylized elements of Modigliani's work.
